Music Director

Fernando Fernandez, Jr.

Fernando Fernandez Jr. has taught music for 12 years in public and private schools in Oklahoma , Illinois and Texas . A native Texan, he graduated from Aransas Pass High School , attended Phillips University and St. Gregory’s University in Oklahoma- where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree with emphasis in low brass and voice- and is 6 hours away from completing his Masters in Secondary Education at TAMUCC.
 
Fernandez is currently in his third year as Music Director at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and his eighth year as Director of Vocal Ensembles for Flour Bluff Junior High and High School . Prior to accepting his current position in 2001, he was the head Band director at Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi, assistant choral and band director, dormitory prefect and Cantorial Choir director at Marmion Academy in Aurora, Illinois, and Director of Student Activities and jazz band director for St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
 
Fernandez has served TMEA as Region Vocal Chairman for 5 years and as a convention volunteer. He has also served on the TCDA hospitality/awards committee and the SBDM committee at Flour Bluff HS for 5 years. An active clinician and mentor, he has worked with many local choirs and directors; served as a clinician for CCISD Choir Showcase; mentored over 15 student teachers; and has served as an instructor for Del Mar College’s All-State Camp for 6 years. He was the 2008 recipient of the Claus Nobel Educator of Distinction Award and was named to Who’s Who Among Teachers.
 
Fernandez is also an active composer and arranger, with several locally published compositions, was a contributing editor and advisor for the songbook Latin A Cappella Vol. 1 published in July of 2007 by Contemporary A Cappella Publishing, and an active community musician as well. He is an active member of TMEA, TCDA, TSTA, a Freemason and a Shriner.
