St. Luke’s mission is to proclaim God’s love to all with our words and our actions. Located in the heart of Corpus Christi since 1947, many have found St. Luke’s to be a community in which they encounter and grow in the love of God revealed to us in Jesus Christ. We want you to know and grow in the transforming love of Jesus, too. It is a wonderful thing!
Sometimes people have gotten the idea that going to church is for some kind of perfect, holier-than-thou, righteous (or self-righteous!) people–that church is for saints. At St. Luke’s, true to our Methodist heritage, we know we’re not perfect! We’re sinners continually seeking God’s grace and guidance. The vision of John Wesley (1703-1791), the “Father of the Methodist Church” was that we are going on toward perfection in love for God and neighbor. In other words, being a Christian isn’t something that happens in a moment, it’s a process of being transformed and becoming more like Jesus. That’s what St. Luke’s is all about.
The church is much more than a beautiful building or an uplifting Sunday morning worship service, although we’ve got both of those! Really, the church is the people–all kinds of people. We are a mix of young and old, singles and families who worship, learn, and serve together as we “go on toward perfection” in love for God and neighbor. St. Luke’s is a living body of sinner-saints committed to growing in God’s grace as we build relationships with our neighbors and serve our community.
