Ash Wednesday Services Set
Worship services for Ash Wednesday are set for February 22 at 12:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Both services will be held in the St. Luke’s chapel — entrance on Reid Dr.
Following Ash Wednesday, St. Luke’s regular Sunday services during Lent will feature a sermon series titled “24 Hours That Changed World.”
Long Time St. Luke’s Members Discuss ‘Thriving’
In conjunction with Pastor Pamela Dykehouse’s recently completed sermon series called “Thrive,” two long time and very active St. Luke’s members agreed to short interviews about their very active lifestyles. These interviews with Jim Barnett and Margie Bailey were shown as part of Pamela’s February 12 sermon, but they were edited due to time constraints. Here is the uncut version of both interviews.

St. Luke’s to host African Children’s Choir January 12
The internationally acclaimed, Grammy –nominated African Children’s Choir will be performing in Corpus Christi, Texas at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 7 p.m. The African Children’s Choir US tour will include tour dates in Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and then south to Texas & Louisiana through December, 2011.
The African Children’s Choir melts the hearts of audiences with their charming smiles, beautiful voices and lively African songs and dances. The program features well-loved children’s songs, traditional Spirituals and rhythmic Gospel favorites. Nearly every performance is concluded with a thunderous standing ovation! In spite of the tragedy that has marred their young lives, the children are radiant with hope, musically gifted and always wonderfully entertaining.
The Grammy-nominated choir has appeared on most major television networks on shows such as Good Morning America, American Idol, The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and more.
Proceeds from Choir performances allow the African Children’s Choir to raise global awareness of the plight of the millions of orphaned and abandoned children in Africa. Donations directly support the expansion of sponsorship and education programs for both the current Choir children and the thousands of other students they represent.
The African Children’s Choir has been working with the most vulnerable children in Africa, raising awareness of the plight of Africa’s orphaned and abandoned, but also showing the beauty, dignity and potential of each African child. The Choir members have the additional benefit of international travel with the choir; this exposes them to a wide variety of people, places and perspectives. This program changes the children’s lives.
The African Children’s Choir has performed on some of the world’s greatest stages including Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Madison Square Garden, London Palladium, US Presidential White House and the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels. The Choir had the privilege of performing with legendary entertainers such as Sir Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Tony Bennett, Mariah Carey, Josh Groban, Alicia Keyes, Keith Urban, Faith Hill and Wyclef Jean.
The African Children’s Choir has performed for US Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, Her Majesty the Queen of England, Noble Peace Prize recipient Nelson Mandela and numerous dignitaries from around the world.
Film celebrities, Connie Britton and Taylor Kitsch continually host events and fundraisers to further the educational work of Music for Life Institute in Africa. Legendary gospel singers Sandy Patti and Michael W. Smith are ongoing supporters of the African Children’s Choir.

Christmas Eve Service Set for 7 p.m.
St. Luke’s traditional Christmas Eve candlelight worship service is set for 7 p.m. on December 24. Everyone is welcomed, and all who are attend are especially encouraged to bring a friend or two. Communion will be served.
The service will be followed by a Christmas Day service at 10 a.m. All Sunday school classes and other regular Sunday events will resume on January 1.
Christmas Cantata Coming December 11

As the month of December draws closer it means that Advent is nearly here; and also that it is almost time for the annual St. Luke’s Christmas cantata! The Chancel Choir has been hard at work on this year’s cantata, “One Incredible Moment”, and it promises to be a morning you will not want to miss and one you will remember for years to come!
